Giveaway: Cartoons Too Dark, Too Dumb and Too Naughty for The New Yorker
Every single week The New Yorker magazine receives about 500 cartoon submissions, and rejects nearly all of them. Even Roz Chast, Pat Brynes, Gahan Wilson, Sam Gross, David Sipress and other gifted cartoonists get rejected most weeks. Happily, fellow cartoonist Matthew Diffee rescued the best of the rejects, many of which are my favorites ever. Nothing like the dark, dumb, sick, outrageous, and even naughty sides of genius! Take a look at the book here.
Eustace Tilley might be humphing , “We are not amused,” but I sure am. The way I see it is, nearly 300 great cartoons means a lot of laughter as good medicine. What’s more, many of these cartoons — such as the hunter/gatherer cartoon by Sam Gross above — are about food. Don’t believe me though, take a look for yourself right here.
Want to win? Whether you are a smart Ass or Wise Ass — the cartoon at left is by Pat Byrnes — you have an equal chance to win. Here’s how to enter.
